Singapore Telugu Samajam - welcomes Ancient language status for Telugu

"The President of the Singapore Telugu Samajam(STS), Mr. Arimilli Radhakrishna and the Management Committee have welcomed the announcement of the Government of India regarding the grant of "Ancient Language" Status to Telugu.

Mr. Radhakrishna has said that the recognition is long overdue and its a very happy news indeed for any "Telugu Bidda" on the eve of the A.P. Formation Day. The culture and rich tradition of the Telugu Language is best summarized by the famous saying "Desa Bhashalandhu Telugu Lessa" he said.

The Singapore Telugu Samajam (STS) has been championing this cause for quite some time and the organization has been putting special efforts into the promotion and preservation of the Telugu language and Telugu traditions within the Andhra Diaspora in Singapore by encouraging the younger generation to take a greater role in the organization and also by getting them to participate in various cultural activities on the eve of important festivals.

As part of these efforts, STS is bringing out a surprise and special new development for the Telugu Diaspora of Singapore on Andhra Pradesh Formation day, Nov 1st, 2008. The new development would be communicated to all members of the Telugu Community and it would be a pleasant surprise to many according to the Management Committee of the Singapore Telugu Samajam.
